Band Against MS Bike Team Receives Five Accolades at Last Week’s Award Banquet

NASHVILLE, TENN. (June 30, 2010) – The Band Against MS (BAMS) bike team was honored on Thursday, June 24, by the Lone Star Chapter of the National MS Society (NMSS) during the BP MS150 Thursday Night Live at the Verizon Wireless Theatre in Houston, Texas, for their participation in the BP MS150 bike ride in April.

Members of the BAMS bike team earned five awards including:

  • The “Make Your Mark Award” – the ride’s highest honor is bestowed upon the team based on their contribution of volunteerism, fundraising and commitment to the mission.
  • “The Most Improved Team” Award– this year’s team grew their fundraising by more than $112,000 from last year, putting them in the Top 40 Fundraising Teams group on the 2010 BP MS 150.
  • The “Mission Possible” Award – this award is given to teams raising more than $100,000 and that exhibit strong participation in the Bike MS: Champions program, which connects riders with people living with MS.
  • The “Gold Safety” Award – this is awarded to teams that fulfilled the safety pledge, providing all participants, independent of whether they are on your team or others, with the safest of riding conditions and the best experience possible so as to ensure their future participation.
  • The “Superstar Fundraiser Committee Recognition” Award – BAMS bike team captains Hillary Trammell and Aaron Jacks were awarded this for their tireless efforts to help fund MS research through the NMSS.

Organized by the NMSS’s Lone Star Chapter, the BP MS150 is the largest charity bike ride of its kind in the United States and takes riders from Houston to Austin, Texas. Traveling 180 miles during the two-day ride, the 108-rider BAMS team pedaled their way to raising more than $155,000. Of the money raised $123,189 will go to the NMSS with $32,000 going toward BAMS to further their mission of funding research to find a cure for MS.
