Band Against MS Award FCMSC Summer Research Scholarship

Jun 15, 2009

For the second year in a row, multi-platinum recording artist Clay Walker and his foundation, Band Against MS (BAMS), funded a FCMSC Summer Research scholarship to a deserving individual during the annual meeting of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) in Atlanta, Ga., held May 27 – 30.

Kaitlin Eng was awarded the BAMS scholarship for her research project titled “Prediction of MS Course from Early Clinical and Brain MRI Features.” This summer, Eng will work under the guidance of Dr. Aaron Miller, co-director of the Corinne Goldsmith Dickinson Center for MS at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, N.Y.

Multiple scholarships were awarded by other organizations to a growing number of students, healthcare professionals and scientists who will build the MS professional workforce of the future. The intention of each scholarship is to deepen the foundation’s commitment to the professional development of the recipients by offering medical students the opportunity to conduct MS research projects under the mentorship of CMSC expert researchers and clinicians, who themselves have contributed to the growing body of knowledge in MS diagnosis and treatment.

“This is the second year BAMS has awarded a scholarship through the FCMSC,” said Walker. “By supporting future MS caregivers, BAMS has a direct impact on the search for a cure for MS, which in turn gives hope to the thousands of people living with this disease.”
